In 2014, thousands of uninsured Idahoans became eligible for a tax credit that helped them purchase health coverage through Idaho’s state health insurance exchange. However, approximately 62,000 Idahoans didn’t qualify for the tax credit, but were not eligible for regular Medicaid. These Idahoans fell into the health care coverage gap.
On November 6, 2018 Idaho voters passed Medicaid expansion at the ballot box with over 60 percent of the vote. Medicaid expansion was fully funded during the 2019 legislative session. Enrollment began on November 1, 2019 and coverage began on January 1, 2020. Thousands of Idahoans across the state can now receive comprehensive health care for the first time.
